  • Answer:

mm/gm measures waterproofing. A more waterproof jacket will breath less. The insulation will keep you warmer. It varies person to person, but many find it easier to dress in layers with an efficient shell(jacket). Undershirts, long-sleeved shirts, thermals, etc. under your jacket will act as removable insulation. Dressing in layers gives you more options, whereas an insulated jacket will restrict your options a bit. The waterproofing amount should be based on what conditions you ride in, and how muggy you'll feel. If you often ride in rain/snow conditions, you might be better off with a more waterproof jacket. If you ride mostly on sunny days, you won't need as much waterproofing. For versatility, medium to almost high amount of waterproofing would stay decently waterproof and still allow it to breath a bit. Also, it's nice to have zip vents in arm pits or other areas. It adds more versatility to ventilation. Good luck choosing a cool jacket. :)
