Can an adult use junior snowboard?

Why does a snowboard have to be one of the big ones to use it at a hill with a lift?

  For safety reasons, the snowboard has to have non-releasable bindings. If it doesn't, it could come off the feet of the rider and careen down the hill and kill someone. Also, it needs to have metal edges so that it will carve in the snow. This will keep the rider and surrounding riders safer.
