I'm a professional, so just ask me. Push with the outside edges of your skates, and when you stop, you can push one foot out, or you can do a T-Stop. Put one foot behind the other, and bend your knees. Don't lean forwards on your picks, lean back on your heels. The backs of your feet may be sore for a while.

Assuming you are using rental or borrowed skates, try to find some with as much ankle support as you can. You will be using different muscles, ones that typically do not get used, so more support is very helpful. Make sure to wear gloves, and knee pads if you can get some. To get started, keep your knees slightly bent (never lock your knees), and lean slightly forward. Push slowly outward (not backward) with your foot, leading with your toe. Once your leg is extended, bring your foot back, transfer your weight, and push outward with your other foot. If you keep the proper posture (knees bent, leaning forward), there is less chance of falling backward. Again, the forward motion is not like walking, and will be a new experience. Take it slowly, don't be afraid, and you'll have a ton of fun!

The first time I went Ice skating everyone told me it was just like rollerblading. ITS NOT! Take it easy and really slow. The ice really hurts when your butt hits it. Dress warm but dont overdue it. Drag your skates, try not to pick up your feet. Stay close to the walls so you can have something to hold onto until you feel comfortable with it. Good Luck and have fun!

Going ice skating for the first time is a wonderful experience! It is fun and brings tons of laughs and smiles. What you want to do is make sure your skates are nice and tight so you can have all the ankle support you need. Keeping your ankles up is very hard to do, but just try your best. You are probably going to fall, so keep warm! Keep your arms out for balance and if you fall get on your knees and put one leg up then push off the ice with your hands to get your balance. Also hold on to the boards for a while, it will help you get around until you are comfortable skating by yourself. But most importantly, HAVE FUN!

number 1 thing to understand is- dont be affraid to fall! it really doesnt hurt that bad, and if youre affraid then you will most likely not pick up a whole lot in the 2 hours except how to hold on to things trying to make your way down the ice! ask someone who knows you and knows how to skate to hold you hand for support, try stepping down the ice (dont be affraid to lift your feet off the ice), make sure you bend your knees, keep your head up, and most importantly HAVE FUN!!

When skating make sure that you turn your foot towards the outside and push. Make sure to keep your arms out to the side for balance. That will help you start to get some momentum. The first time that I ice skated I had a really good time, and I had a lot of fun which is part of the reason why I like skating so much. You can definitely learn some of the basics of skating in two hours. I remember that the first time I went within the first hour of skating I had some basic skating down, and I was doing really well. Wear clothes like some black stretch knit pants, a pair of gloves a jacket, and make sure that you have good socks so your feet won't hurt very badly after you skate, they still may be sore, but if you have bad socks you can get blisters and charring of your skin much easier. Also you want to not be afraid to fall, in skating we usually say that when you fall it means you are getting better, and don't try anything too hard. Good luck skating, and have fun!

ok for the first time, yes i remember this. ok spread your arms out nice and wide to stabalize yourself. pretend like you are walking, dont try anything stupid like spinning really fast or doing any fancy stuff. you probably be just fine.

well, i have to say try to keep ur balance forward but not too forward. keep ur hands out in front of u and pretend there is a table u r holding that is called ur "magice table". and ice skating is very similiar to roller blading. so just relax and don't start to walk on the ice u will fall most likely. or u can just hold on to the wall and stay there but that's not fun. so my advice is relax, keep weight forward, hand out, and have fun!=) good luck.

when i first skated i couldnt skate i was terrified of the ice and i was always falling. it depends on how fast one learns but on average ppl in 2 hrs could learn 2 ft glide swizzles and maybe how to skate backwards and 1 ft glide. dont stumble on ur toe pick. be aware that it's there.

wowie, where should i start? i learned just fine without having the expierence of roller blading. (background info) first, put on your skates as tight as possible (get rental), and tie them REALLY tight (make sure you have high socks so the skates dont hurt your foot. before going on the ice, you should practice walking around on carpet or something, anything but concrete cuz it will ruin the blade. if u r comfertable walking around, then ur ready, cuz u HAVE to b comfertable with walking around. my frnds say skating is sorta like walking. now, onto the ice. first, hang onto the wall because when you first start, you should do this for safety. slowly start with one leg and move it forward, then the other, keep doing this until you could go pretty fast with this. gradually let one hand off the wall and do this again. one foot, then the other. soon, ull b off the wall! if u r addicted to the wall, have a friend closest to the wall and another friend on the other side. ur friends will drag u so u could b away from the side. u dont c professionals on the wall right? NO! TIPS: -ALWAYS KEEP YOUR SKATES STRAIGHT AND NOT SLANTED, IT WILL EVENTUALLY HURT YOUR FOOT -WEAR A HELMET ON THE FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS -WEAR GLOVES (optional) -BRING SOME TRUSTWORTHY FRIENDS THAT COULD SKATE Other: dont be afraid of letting go of the wall, falling absolutely doesnt hurt, if u do fall, have some friends bring u back up. make sure u keep balanced. i cant think of anymore. have fun! i hoped i helped
