Do you think tattoos need to have meanings?

they don't have to but it is nice when they do, since people will ask. i have 3; a mini church with a wedding date, a teddy bear, and a cartoon panda sitting on a rose giving a funny face. guess which one i need to give an explanation on.

No not necessarily, it adds something and makes it that much more special when there is meaning behind it. But if you see a tattoo or think of on that you'd like just because it's beautiful or will look good on you, that's fine too! I have one so far that I got with a meaning and designed myself and I'm getting another with meaning, but there are a couple that I've seen that I'm contemplating just for how it will look on me (pretty/beautiful/sexy). Meaning just makes it easier to explain when people ask is all

I don't think tattoos need to have meanings at all. But, if they don't I would spend a lot longer thinking about them before getting them inked. I have a lily on my foot, which has no meaning at all, apart from the fact I wanted a lily on my foot!! I thought about it for a good 18 months before I finally had it done though. On a side note, I also find tattoos help me to like a part of my body I previously hated. I have big feet and fat thighs, but since having them inked, they really don't bother me as much as they used to. I see beautiful artwork instead.

Weather it means something to you or you just like it it didn't matter. It's art. If you like the art it's fine. It's yours. No one else's. Do what you love :)

Yes! I have one that has absolutely no meaning. Got it when I was 16 in my cousins room just cus I could. I totally regret it. theres no story behind it plus it came out to look like a high heel (its supposed to be a music note) but thats my fault for getting an at home tat by a drunk guy. But that's not the reason I hate it. I wish that when people ask me why I have it I'd actually have something to say. I have two others, my sign on my arm and my daughters name and footprint on my back. Both I love and actually have meaning. It's all up to you though. Some just have tats to have em. Some actually think they're art, and like any good art, they have a meaning or even an entire backstory to them.

Nope! Your body is your body, you should be able to do what you want with it! When i'm old enough, i want so many tattoos, most of them just cause i like them! As long as you like them, then they are special, they make you who you are and if people dont like that, they can suck it :)

Well if you are a female I would hope that their was some sort of reason or meaning for having a tattoo put upon yourself. They after 40 or 50 years tend to spread droop and do all sots of things. What if later in life you marry and have kids? What would your response to them be about any of them that you now have? The content also will come to play down the road.Something put on that you thought had meaning when it was done 40 years ago just might appear as a possibly dumb or even stupid after thought to it. I have one but it's a full band around my left arm.Not entirely unappealing of course unless you were my mother 10 years back when she first saw that I had one.And I was over 40 years old at the time! LOL Some are very interesting that I've been pr-ivied to see on many women. One wouldn't know that they even had it until all was barred,and then surprise,surprise, would you look at that!

I mean its an opinion really but they are on your one and only body permanently so they probably should have something to tell other than ugh I really don't know why I got this one lol
