What is the difference between situational analysis and a SWOT analysis?

What are the limitation of SWOT analysis? What is the difference between SWOT and TOWS?

  • Answer:

first person here answered that lack of time refrence in swot anlaysis is its draw back. that is absolutely wrong. u can draw SWOT matrix across the time and across organizations. there is no diffrence between SWOT and TOWS. different management text books use it differently. the basic philosophy of SWOT or TOWS is to use ur strengths to combat threats and utilize the opportunities. or build up ur strenghths to combat threats or use opportunities. the major limitation of SWOT analysis is mapping of stengths across opportunities and threats i.e what are the strenghts we need to use or build inorder to deal with external opporunities and threats. in a simple case analysis this might be easier. but there is no logic or established principle other than our consensus to map them. other than this i dont think SWOT analysis have nay limitations. may be SWOT analysis doest take situational factors into account but then these two are different things that must be looked upon.
