How do I get rid of my stiff neck?

  • Answer:

Aw sorry to hear about your pains, a neck pain can be bothersome. Most want to put a heating pad on it but studies have found icing it for awhile is better. I personally do a really, really warm small towel or a heating pad, if in pain and then ice it a few hours later and or the next day. The very best thing is to get a Shiatsu massage or some kind of professional massage as soon as you can, and then another a few days after. There is a point in the very center of the back of your skull, press your thumb up and carefully in. Also self massage on the sides. put your fingers together and press in on the area going down from your ears to your collarbone. I press in for 3 seconds and move down ward. Then I take my thumbs and press in the indented area below your skull, behind your ears, I keep my fingertips on top of my head and work my thumbs down. Also sit in a dimly lit quiet place and stretch and do deep slow breathing (from the abdomen area). Rotate your head carefully around, very carefully. Also I stand and do arm rotations because I get this from the way I sleep and it goes from my skull to my shoulder blade (Occipital to Scapula). I am a believer in love and sex, so if your that kind of person I hear there is one good release for a headache. Look for Qi Gong, Kundilini www.drdharma.com. Be well

Try to keep your neck warm at all times by using a scarf. Avoid doing anything that might cause you to move your neck. If it is really bad, I suggest just staying in bed and sleeping it off. It can take a couple of days to disappear.

try lying down on the floor, so that your body is well aligned and fully relaxed, it'll help relieve some of the tension

you could try massaging your neck, but if that is not helping you try taking a hot shower to relax you neck.
