Does anyone do gateway school program?

Can anyone reccomend a grammar school home school program online that is reputable not religious affiliated?

  • I am looking for a good online reputable grammar school home school program for my grandchildren ages 3 4 7 10 that is not religious affiliated

  • Answer:

Calvert is good, I am not sure if they are on-line or correspondence. Sycamore academy has both secular and Christian options for enrollment, however I don't think that the secular one is available 100% on line, (part of it must come from books). http://www.sycamoretree.com K12 is popular, and is used by many public school at home programs, but is also available for private purchase/enrollment if you don't live in an area that offers it through Public school. http://www.k12.com

We do K12 (www.k12.com) with one of their public virtual academies and have gone through all the grammar school grades. K12 has a complete curriculum covering math, literature, language skills, science, history, art, music, etc. It is a very well done, well thought out program. They do cover some religious topics in history and literature but in a non-biased way. It gives you enough info to learn about several different religions but doesn't promote any one in particular.

When you say "good", I don't recommend Calvert/Connections Academy. It's dry, boring, and textbookish (will spoil the love of learning for kids). I highly recommend what I've been using for over five years - K12. http://www.k12.com They do not have preschool for the 3 & 4 y.o., but you could start them with K12's PhonicsWorks and give them a jump start for Kindergarten. My son is 10 and has been using K12 since he was 5. He LOVES it and I love it as a parent-teacher. We've never used K12 as part of a virtual academy/school. We use it as independent HS'ers. If your state has a K12 school, that's one option. Your students would belong to a public school, rather than private HS'ing, but that works well for many people. It's free, too (with normal school fees). To purchase K12, it's a bit pricey for some people, but for me, it's WELL worth it.

I have no idea what state you are in but Connections Academy is awesome!! It is not affiliated with any religion, it uses the Calvert curriculum for lower grades and it is free. go to there website and check it out. new enrollment for fall starts this week. good luck!
