Answer:
I think it really depends on the teachers in both situations. The closest public school to my home is a nightmare! They do almost ALL their 'learning' on the computer so the kids are always plugged in, they have days where they just stop working and play video games for hours on end and they have no clue how to properly discipline children swinging from the extreme's of either ignoring the behaviour to suspending over a minor infraction. I am seriously considering home schooling my kids to grade 6 so that they can develop a strong work ethic, a working knowledge of how a book actually works and so that their discipline in their developing years is much more consistent and a style that works best for them (every kid is different). I'm not a trained teacher but with a bit of organization and effort I think I'm going to try it out for a year and see which learning environment my kids do better in. It all depends. I say, try it out, you can always switch if you need to.

There is really no "better." It's like asking if living in the country or city is better; or if working in a big corporation or owning your own home business is better. So much depends upon the person. Some people thrive in public schools. Some don't. Some people thrive in homeschooling. Some don't. Neither is a garauntee. Success in life is ultimately going to depend upon the person and the choices they make. The only thing I can say for sure is that people who think homeschooling will hold you back from success, college, socialization, etc., don't know what they're talking about. Homeschoolers have gone on to college, to successful careers, can have many friends and activities, etc... homeschooling is not a hinderance.
