Do CSX crews get to make round trips from NY to Florida with 12 hour work and 8 hour rest on each shift?
-
Can a CSX crew operate a train from NY to Florida, with 12 hour work and 8 hour rest between each run and do the samething coming back to home terminal?
-
Answer:
A CSX crew would take a train to some point in New Jersey, where the train terminates (Oak Island, North Bergen, or South Kearny yards), or is relieved by another crew to continue taking that train further along its route. Another reason, hours of service laws aside, has to do with the crews' being qualified on the physical characteristics of the line(s) over which they operate. I never met anyone qualified on the entire route between New York and Florida - it doesn't work that way.
