You probably will have to upgrade the tranny on the car if you go with an LS1 engine. If you get the LT1 or LT4 then you most likely don't need to switch up the tranny. However if you get a brand new engine then you want a new tranny to keep up with the extra horsepower and last as long as the rest of the car. Try the site below to compare the LT1 and the LT4 engines for yourself. It also might have some info on the LS1.
