How much would an engine swap cost?

How much would it cost to swap a V6 engine to a V8 engine in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am?

  • I was just wondering how much it would cost cause I was think about swapping the engine and if it is to much I would buy a new car.

  • Answer:

The car was never built to support a V-8 engine, so it would require a complete engineering makeover. You should consider something else, because no shop will take that job, without a huge pile of cash up front.

Just buy the new car!!!!!!!!!! It isn't going to happen. Isnt really the cost, just pretty much you need everything from the V8 donor car that you just go ahead & buy a car with the V8 already installed

think about it for a minute ! the front end was made for a v6 and a v8 would be too heavy and the transmission you will need because a v6 won,t bolt to the v8 ! you will be better off to buy another car and if the v6 is still running then sell it and pocket the money !

Since this is a transverse engine mount, it seems very difficult. I don't think the V8 would fit transverse in the space of a V6. So then you would have to install it inline, using an older transmission, drive shaft, and differential. But there are V6 engines Buick made with a supercharger, that produce up to 260 hp. http://www.pictures.musclecarjungle.com/d/4765-3/1995-riviera-supercharged-3800-engine.jpg

It would cost more than the value of the car..and it probably wouldnt fit in the engine bay.. Just go out and buy yourself a 2001 or so Buick GS. its supercharged and very fast
