American college experience... vain materialistic sorority girls and meathead frat boys... *Sara the Slytherin shudders* Gee thanks!! Now I'm gonna need therapy! Lol, jk. Don't base your decision on what someone else is doing, though. If you speak good Spanish, take classes with the local students and get involved with activities, you will make some Spanish friends, I'm sure. Whatever you do, the most important thing is that you're going to study abroad. I can relate to what you are saying, as a former study abroad student. Perhaps you can learn something from my experience. There are two places I dreamed of going to all my life: Mexico, and Spain. When it came time to study abroad, however, I had to choose between the two countries. Part of me felt blessed just to have the chance to see one of my dream countries, and part of me felt town because I was in love with both. I don't regret going to Mexico. I went down there and fell in love with it (and a Mexican guy or two but that's another story!) and half my heart is down there. However, half my heart is in Spain. I think that when we're presented with such a choice, that no matter what we choose, we feel like we're missing something. I think that you should do research and talk to people who have been there, and learn about the specific cities. That helped me decide. I was leaning towards Spain but then I discovered the Mexican town of Cuernavaca and that was it... I just had to go to Cuernavaca. Maybe you will discover something in one of these places that you just can't miss. I'll never regret studying in Mexico, but I still long to see Spain. I keep telling myself I will, and in fact, I'm going in November. Just don't let anyone talk you out of going abroad, whatever you do.
