Most of these answers are correct but before you can connect to your router to make changes to its settings you have to connect the ethernet cable that came in the router box. Connect one end into your LAN socket on your PC and the other end into one of the spare LAN sockets on the back of the router. Then you can enter the IP address into a browser window and make the changes.

Really depends on your router type. Most of the time the software will come with CD that can install your utlities like for what you are describing. Add a computer, install security, etc. Your going to look for the options to encrypt your connection. Most of the time you can simply log into your router via internet explorer. In the address bar type in 192.168.1.1 and enter....if you didn't setup an administrator password (recommened) then your default may be: user name: admin password: admin navigate over to security and choose to WPA your connection to encrypt it. When you see something called "key" write that down or copy and paste it into a notepad doc because your going to need that if you want to hook up any other computers to that connection. That is how you keep out hackers and service leechers. W/O that key any computer will not have access to your service. Best of Luck.

Can you tell us what type of router you have? Different routers have different methods to secure them. Typically though, you navigate to the router's IP address and you are prompted for the router's default username and password. Then you are given all the options for protecting your router.

you need to login to your router gui and you can set the security settings there. i would suggest reading the manual that came with your router...that should help you to do it easily.
