Calculate each of the following quantities for an ideal gas?

What volume will the following quantities of gas occupy at STP?

  • For gases at STP, one mole occupies a volume of 22.4 L. What volume will the following quantities of gas occupy at STP? 1. 13.9 moles of CO2 2. 1.45moles of O2 ...show more

  • Answer:

ideal gas law, PV=nRT pressure (atm) x volume (liters) = moles x Faraday's constant x Temp (Kelvin) R = 0.08206 Kelvin = C+273 It's just plug and chug. STP, standard temp and pressure, is 1atm (P) and 0C (273K). When I took chem, it was 25C (about 3 years ago), but in answering questions lately I think they've changed it to 0C. http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryglossary/a/stpdefinition.htm 1. 1(V) = 13.9(0.08206)(273) solve for V in liters 2. 1(V) = 1.45(0.08206)(273) solve for V in liters now it's just math! :) which is ALL any inorganic chem question is! Hope this helps, good luck on your test.
