How do you make cat fish bait?

    For the past 25 years I've only fished for cats with this bait. I take a beef kidney and cut it up along the ridges and segments. This will leave it in 1" to 1.5" pieces, I trim out the big veins because they can be a hassle to slip a hook into. Next I take the pieces and using a #2 or other size hook with a 12 leader I go ahead and run the hook into the chunks and try to keeps the hook tips just barely embedded in the kidney. I place the chunks in a large pickle or mayo jar and add 1 cup of molasses and a half cup of corn meal. Mix easily and seal it with a screw on lid. This then goes into the sun for 2 days to sour. If I make up several jars I will set the spares in the freezer after they have aged so their ready when I head out. I just reach in with a pair of needle nose pliers and grab a leader that's already baited. I use it for channel cats, blue cats, yellow flatheads, and even catch buffalo on it.

Forget the dough bait. Go to a local grocery store and get some beef liver. Lots of people say chicken liver is best but it doesn't matter. Beef liver though, stays on the hook better as it's tougher. You can leave out of the fridge to get it a little rotten smelling but it won't matter. You can never fail to catch some channel cats with this stuff. You can also go to a bait shop and buy professionally made stink bait which also works wonders. Good luck fishin'!
