    It would be wise to listen to G.M.B. Pick up an ultralight (or the one step up from it, which holds like 120 of 6lb line) Pflueger President and a $30 - $40 rod from BPS, 5' 6" or 6' UL or L. For the bass, a 6735 President reel and a 7' M spinning rod.

Well if you want the best of both worlds you should get a medium-light action

Go to walmart buy a ultralight spinning rod and reel ( $50) Then buy a fly rod and reel that take 7 level line ($100) Then go buy a nice fish dinner

I do quite well for both on one rod. I've got a 6'6 Medium-fast St Croix rod and a Pflueger President 6730x reel. I've got a spool of 10lb fireline and 8lb Nanofil. It's got a soft enough tip to detect light trout bites (though I have an Ultralight Shimano that works even better), but enough power to set the hook on a bass or walleye. I do agree, though, that if you can, get 2 separate rods. But for me, this setup works good for my all-around rod. At least until I can get a 6'6-7' med-light or light action rod and another reel to spool some 6lb nanofil on for the trout.

I'd go with a Shimano Stradic ( about $160) and a ML rod.
