  Save yourself a lot of heartache , get a copy of Sea Angler magazine , you will find instructors in there and it's only a phone call away , they don't charge ( you could offer their expenses ) they will show you how to set your reel up and teach you to cast without tangles. Tangles is down to your technique not your reel . So start properly and you will improve very quickly. I spent 2 hours with an instructor 10 years ago and it added almost 60 yards to my cast. And line for a Shock leader is 10lb for every 1oz of casting weight , so if you use a 6oz sinker you want a shock leader 2 rod lengths and 60lb breaking strain.
