Will top universities accept me to their Graduate Program?

How likely is a graduate science program to accept a GMAT score in lieu of a GRE score?

  • I scored fairly well on the GMAT (710, 8/8 IR, 5.5/6 CW) when I was planning to apply to do an MBA.  Then I changed my mind and decided to apply to a specialized science program instead. Will I need to now study for the GRE and take that exam?  The application deadlines are approaching quickly and I'm worried I won't have time.  Am I likely to convince them to accept my GMAT score if I can give percentiles to help them compare my apple to their oranges (even though it's a different percentile pool)?

  • Answer:

Most top programs will not take a GMAT score and will not be convinced to do so.  I have seen one or two attempts when I participated on the recruitment side.  It may bring your commitment to the graduate program into question.  You will likely be the only person doing so, and if it's a top program, admissions committees prune very aggressively.

Depends on which program do you want to apply to . Unless it's MS Finance or one of the areas related to business, most program would not accept GMAT in lieu of GRE.
