How do I get really good at chess?

Which is a more difficult game to get really really good at, Chess or Othello?

I think Chess would take longer to master. Once you have the basics worked out at Othello, you take down most opponents with certain strategies.

Chess will always be more difficult as there are far more possibilities. I leant Othello as my wife didn't play chess and mastered it very quickly. The thing to remember is that it is all about corners and edges. Keep in your mind not to give one away unless you have no choice and you will get better. With othello you will learn to think a number of moves ahead which will help you with chess. Like all things practice Othello and learn from your mistakes.

Othello doesn't really "take a minute to learn but a lifetime to master." The only person "saying" that are the people who publish that board game. That's just the catch phrase they use on the outside of the box. (Actually, lots of board games have used that same exact catch phrase.) Chess is MUCH more difficult to "get really good at." I've been trying for the past 38 years and I still haven't succeeded. :)
