    Edit: Chris WTF? that is sick, and beside the point completely. Feed him only twice a day and only as much as the size of his eye, put stress zyme in the water, Change 50% of the water every day, and get a better tank soon. You need about 3-5 gallons for him to be happy. Also, Your betta needs a heater and filter plus decorations that are soft and a couple he can rest on. Bettas are hardy fish, but your's is going to be in a fragile state, so make him as comfortable as possible. If he's not in too bad a shape (although he sounds like he is in a poor condition. He should bounce back, but also he may die from being abused and used by the pet store. If he dies, remember that it wasn't your fault. And don't buy any more Bettas or anything from that pet store, they should be put out of business if their animals are all treated like this.

I did the same thing, but with a fish from walmart. He is in a 2 gallon bowl until I can get him his very own 5 gallon tank(: He was very puny and sluggish, but now after only about a month he has grown allot and is the friendliest betta I have ever had! He eats out of my hand, watches me do my homework, and is always on the side of the tank I am on. All I did was give him a better home( a 2 gallon bowl is definitely better than a tiny cup!)He gets pellets every day, and a pea once or twice a week. His colors are so much brighter, too(: Good luck with your betta!

You really shouldn't buy fish like those. The pitiful looking ones at the front. They are typically disease ridden and wont live long. If their tails are falling off, that means they have tail-rot. That is a bacterial (if im not mistaken) infection, and you could try the antibiotic Erythromicin. Also, to discourage Bacterial growth, put some aquarium salt in the tank. Also, make sure to keep the water clean, and do a water change whenever you notice the tank is getting dirty. The best you can do is really wait and see if the infection clears up.

clean its bowl reguglarly and have one of you male friends ejaculate in the fish tank atleast once week. the sperm has many vitimans and minerals that will strengnthen the beta's immune sytem, making it less seseptable to being sick.
