Is it possible to get a chipped sky box?

If I buy a Sky+ box locally what is the process to get my Sky card and the new box working together?

  • I have a standard Sky box but want to replace it with a Sky+ box that I can buy locally... Do I need to ask Sky to activate the new box? I am a Sky contract customer at present.

    Be careful if the box is second hand and under contract, you could end up paying of the contract. Yes you will need them to activate it. They will need the make, model and serial number plus they will probably send you a new card..When i changed over i did it with Sky and it cost me £60 fully installed and working it took there engineers almost 2 hours to set it all up with the duel DVD and video player recorder on a 18 month contract on the full package after that the box is all yours.

you have to contact sky, as a second satellite cable needs to be run from your dish. also i think you have to sign up to a new 12 month contract.
