Base pay depends on the place. Sometimes it's about $4/hr up to minimum wage and sometimes higher. The amount made by tips depends if the place requires the tips to be split between all bartenders or if each person gets to keep the tip they received for themseleves. I bartended at a Red Lobster with a base salary of $7/hr and business at the bar was not really that busy. Having to share the tips with the other bartenders and waitresses, I was lucky to make an average of $20 day in tips on a weeknight and maybe $50 tips per night on the weekends. My total earnings including base pay and tips were maybe around $300-$400 week on average Not very good pay at all. But I know people, especially younger attractive females, who can earn hundreds $$ in a night working at a big night club. Overall not many people make a great living bartending and often have a second job or are just earning part-time money for school. The biggest earning bartenders are those who do the freestyle bottle tricks working at some casino or someplace like that.
