It sounds like a good deal. Just wanting some input from someone who has tried it before purchasing the equipment. Thanks for any help.

Answer:
Just some basic info.... magicJack™ service is an Internet Telephony product that was designed to attract tech savvy consumers who want to use low-grade voice services for little to no cost. magicJack service works by plugging a required device into a USB port into a computer. A broadband connection is required. Consumers can make free local and long-distance calls within the United States and Canada. The service can only be purchased online with a major credit card. Consumers can only plug the magicJack device into one computer. The only available features that are currently offered with magicJack at this time are; Directory Assistance, Call waiting, Voicemail, and Caller ID. There are future plans for magicJack to port numbers in the future; however this will likely be fee-based, the amount is not disclosed at this time. The service requires the computer to be powered to make out-going phone calls. The computer does not need to be on for users to send voicemail or for call forwarding. Availability of international calls is not currently available; however magicJack has projected per minute rates that will be available to customers in the future. magicJack does not support the use of a fax machine. In order for your alarm to work, you must have a separate line which requires home phone service through a traditional phone or cable provider. In addition if power to your computer goes out, the magicJack service will not work. magicJack is not required to provide their customers with access to emergency 911, E911, or similar access to emergency services. However, when customers register to use the magicJack device, customers will be enrolled in magicJack's voluntary 911 services, if their customers register a U.S. service address.

I actually got one in the mail today and to my surprise it worked the way they said it would. I am going to try it out for awhile before I dump my land line though. The calls I made are clear, and even though I think it is kind of a hastle to consider giving up my current phone number that I have had for over 10 years, the I like the idea of saving $50.00 a month. We'll see.
