What are podcasts on iTunes?

I have heard all about them but i was never to sure. can someone explain what they are and how they work?

I'm not sure how to say this. Just go on iTunes and click on podcasts and you'll get the idea pretty quickly. They are free. Kind of like free radio shows. They can range from amateurs talking about their favorites subjects (comic books, sports, movies...whatever) to clips from network TV shows. Wiki has a definition but I'm not sure it helps much.

Well, there is video podcasts that let you watch every video on the certain podcast. There is audio podcasts that let you listen to interviews with bands. Those are the only kind of podcasts ive ever used.
