Your VCR will still work to record from your Freeview box when you are out. A Freeview box with a hard drive and twin tuners would surely be useful.

Other answers

Your VCR will still work to play back your tapes in the same way it does now, but to continue using it to record TV after switchover you will need to connect a Freeview box to it. If you want to record one channel and watch a different channel you will need two Freeview boxes, one for the TV set and one for the VCR. A much better option would be to invest in a recorder (DVD or hard disc drive) with a built-in Freeview tuner and use your existing Freeview box to view programmes on your TV.
