How much would a engine + transmission swap cost on a 99 civic dx?

    I know you say you want to keep the car as you expected to pay about $5000 for a functional Civic but hear me out. You started with $5000. Bought the automatic Civic for $500 so that leaves you with $4500. You should be able to sell the auto Civic for a decent price (even if sold cheap you could make $1500 minimum) That leaves you with $6000 or more! Buy a manual Civic shell(since you are swapping the engine you dont need a running car to start with) for cheap (probably around $1000) and swap the engine. You will save a very nice amount of money by going this route. If you paid a shop/professional to do the swap you would probably pay around $1500 for the swap if not more since they will have to cut the shifter hole and you will be lucky if the shop knows exactly where and how much to cut.

Ok, yes it is possible, but find a shop that has done this with a honda. Because: 1. Modified motor mounts and hassport sells. 2. New ECU and jumper to make everything work. 3. Brake upgrades (rear disc brakes), you will have more power and it will be harder to stop with stock brakes. Make sure they know what they are doing. Motor and trans go for 200-1000 on craigslist, depends on the condition. Labor, could go for 1000-3000... One tip, goto your local grocery store, pick up...PROJECT MAGAZINE.. before its toolate and they put out a new one. They swap a d series engine that sits in an automatic tranny car. for a B20 with manual tranny. You will get the idea of how its done, so you can ask the shop, to see if they know their stuff. if you need help picking an engine. Pick up a b18c1 from an integra GSR... it is less of a hassle to have a decent amount of power. if you want more. go b20 from a CR-V with a b16 head from a 99 civic Si or del sol Si.. the newest model of del sol that came out i think. have fun

by the time ur done you could have sold the 99 and bought a good running 99 [or newer!] and saved all the headach you could prob find a guy to quote 1000 dollars but by the time hes done God only knows what final tab will be
