Throttle body spacer and Cold air intake for a 1992 Chevy K1500 Silverado 5.7 w/206,000 miles. Is it worth it?

  • Answer:

It may or may not be worth it... You can expect a very very slight increase in low-end torque with the spacer. The cold-air intake is pretty much a waste of money. If all the factory intake plumbing is in place, your sucking air in from the passenger fender well area, and it is virtually the same temperature as outside air... I have seen where people flip the lid on the air filter housing for better volume (remove wing nut, take off lid and flip over, then replace wing nut). Now there is a gap where air can be sucked in.

You're going to find that all the bad rumors about American vehicles aren't true! Congratulations on your purchase, this truck has a lot of life left! I would not recommend a throttle body spacer however, they do next to nothing. I would recommend turning the air cleaner lid upside-down as someone suggested, that will give it a lot more intake sound, as well as some more horsepower. I'd also recommend dual Flowmaster exhaust, this allows for much more low-end torque, and it sounds great.
