    Sunday farmers market near Ivar and Hollywood Blvd. From 8am to 1pm. You may see stars there as well. They go to pick up organic produce, etc. I've seen many there myself. From there you can do all the other stuff that's been recommended. Join Goldstar.com. They have anything from free to half price and reduced price tickets to LA events, shows and special performances. They will send you weekly updates if you wish. I used them a lot when I was living in LA. I recommend them highly. Check it out.
