Expired Passport renewing process!?

I'm living in Hawaii and my passport is expired. I was wondering how is the process of renewing your passport work cause I have no idea how it works. I'm a U.S citizen btw.

I used to be an Acceptance Agent, so you just print out the form. The Form is called DS-82. Like the person above said, attach two 2x2 photos and your old passport. They mail your old passport back to you. It's $60 and it takes about 2 to 4 months (depending how busy they are) and 2 to 4 weeks if you want to expedite it ($120). Sometimes it even comes quicker during the regular way. I heard some people got it within a month. I worked at KCC, so I know that all the UH campuses have the facilities and it costs about $5 for pictures if you're a student. They're rarely crowded too.
