    You will need to get in place very early, probably as early as 8 to 9pm - a full three hours before midnight. Sounds daft I know, but the crowds are enormous and joining such a crowd at around 11pm or later is going to be impossible. You might also find a spot on Westminster Bridge looking towards Festival Gardens on the South Bank from where the fire works are let off. Make sure you visit the loo before taking your place. If you come you'll need to get here early for a good spot. It will be biting cold as you'll be hanging around outside for the better part of 3-4 hours so dress in layers and don't forget your hat, gloves, scarf and warm footwear. Come in a group as it's more fun with friends, otherwise you could get bored waiting for midnight. If you bring your own celebration beverages to pass the time, be aware that finding a toilet will be near impossible!

Personally I'd say don't do it, but if you're happy hanging around in the cold for hours then I'd get somewhere to stay within walking distance, so north of the Thames and get somewhere around Euston. This would be a relatively short walk back and there are plenty of Hotels around there, but book early.
