  • Answer:

They are two totally different concepts in transportation. A plane is not meant to be a vacation, it is meant to get you to your destination in a efficient but not always the most comfortable method. A cruise ship is your vacation that rely on comfort and amenities. On a cruise it depends on the itinerary as to how long you are in port. In general you will arrive around 7-8AM and leave around 5-6PM. But sometimes you may have a little less time in port, and on a few ports and itineraries you may have more where it may even be an overnight stop. There are several good cruise lines but it really depends on what type of experience you want. If you want a "traditional" cruise then Cunard is probably the one you want to go with, along these lines there is also Holland America Lines. If you want more of a cruise that is a bit livelier and has more activities then Royal Caribbean is a very good choice, there is also Princess, NCL, Disney. If you want a real "Party" type of cruise then Carnival may be more to your liking.

A cruise holiday is a totally different concept to a fly and stay holiday. Basically you live in a comfortable resort hotel and they change the scenery outside every day. The stops along the way are typically 8 - 12 hours at a time, giving you time to explore the immediate area or go on organised tours, but the main part of the holiday is the cruise itself rather than the places you visit. Many cruises involve a flight to get you to the ship. There are plenty of cruises that start in the UK, but you spend rather a lot of your time sailing round Spain to get to the Mediterranean, or crossing the Atlantic. The cruises that start and finish in the UK are offered by P&O, Cunard, Royal Caribbean, & Fred Olsen. You'll find you get a slightly better deal going through an on-line cruise agent because they use some of their commission to discount the price.

Flying will get you to your destination much much quicker , but thats the whole point , on a cruise ship you enjoy the travelling part ,there is no hurry as you travel in real luxuary, top cruise ships are so lavish , they are huge and have such a range of entertainment , singers , casino`s , food , dance , games etc etc the experiance of travelling while being looked after to such a high degree is what you pay for.

It's so much easier in my opinion. I work on a P&O cruise ship which leaves from Southampton. Advantages; You can bring as much luggage as you want. There's no delays. There's no flying. It's fast and easy check in. Brilliant for families with babies and young children as they can bring so much luggage and can wheel prams/buggies on to the ship. No waiting in airports and the maximum wait in the terminal is about 10 minutes. Disadvantages; Can be a little bit rocky on board if you're going to the Mediterranean. Can be a long drive (Depending on where you're travelling from. Some ships leave from Greenock too). We usually have two days at sea for a typical cruise, one getting there from Southampton, one getting back to Southampton. Most of the time, we have full days in the destination with there being a few places where we leave an hour or two earlier. We usually arrive at around 6-7am and leave about 5-6pm with there sometimes being an hour or two less in the desitination or, occasionally, an overnight stay. I think all seven of P&O's ships leave from Southampton and Greenock. Cunard ships. some Royal Caribbean and some Costa ships also leave from Southampton and Greenock. My ship is just back from Norway and the week before it was in Spain, Italy and Portugal so there are some ideas of destinations. If you like formal, Cunard ships are the best. If you like a mixture of formal and casual, P&O and Royal Caribbean are best. If you like family ships, P&O, Royal Caribbean and Disney ships are best. If you like adult only ships, P&O has three adult only ships I think. I know a lot of other cruise lines have adult only ships. I'd definitely recommend P&O. Hope I helped.

There is a huge variety of cruises within the uk travelling all around the world. I believe that travelling by plane is just like a long ride in the car, but you can't see the driver, whereas travelling by cruise is like a big holiday, you can get to your chosen destination as well as having fun and experiencing new things. I booked my cruise with Cruise.co.uk, it was cheap and I had an amazing holiday, so much better than an annoying 2 hour long journey cooped up in a plane.

Well the ship takes longer but is bigger The plane is faster but smaller and the crew are probably nicer.

I'm not sure about what cruise lines are good in the UK, but here in the US we have some good ones like Caribbean Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean. I think what makes a cruise different is that you spend more days out in the water, and get to explore the ship, eat, rest, and just have different activities.
