I've been in a 9 metre swell in the Bay of Biscay area, on an old, medium-size, cruise ship. I didn't feel too good, and there were a lot of people being ill, but the ship itself was fine - they are built to withstand such conditions and have stabilisers. If you are in stormy conditions and suspect that you are a poor sailor, travelling in an outside cabin, keep the curtains drawn and don't look out. Lie down whenever possible. The Medical room will supply pills and injections, but it will cost you, so be prepared and take your own. There are a lot of cross currents in the South Atlantic (have a look at a map of the seas) so you would expect some turbulence. Weather conditions seem a bit odd this past couple of years, too. You may well find that it is nearly as flat as the proverbial mill pond - I was up in the North Sea area on a boat this year and it was so flat that you hardly knew we were moving yet I was expecting it to be rough.
