Answer:
<<Does the US health care debate remind you of the global warming debate?>> No, because the healthcare debate is largely ideological. Some people want poor people to get medical care, and thus support the Obama plan. Other people do not want to have their money taken to pay for the medical bills of strangers. It is quite natural for there to be a split between liberals and conservatives. But the "debate" on global warming is often over the science, with conservatives just saying things that are scientifically wrong. If the debate would have been over whether to use market forces like cap & trade vs taxation, that could have been a legitimate debate. But there is no legitimate reason for the debate on well-established science. On healthcare it makes sense for conservatives to hold different views from Obama, but it does not make sense on the scientific questions about something indisputable scientifically.

The US spends twice as much as proportion of GDP as other advanced nations, but gets no more benefit. And you have successful single payer operating on your own northern border. But here, as with climate change, ideology trumps reality. [Disclosure: I have lived under both the US and the UK systems. The US is sometimes (only sometimes) better for the well insured; but much much worse for anyone else. And where else does government insure the old, but not the young?]

Dana, you mean the economists that you believe in says that neither of these programs will be that expensive. There are other economists out there that think it will be more expensive.

Yes, there are lots of similarities. Stupid economist say it's going to cost too much, smart ones say it's not. Stupid scientist say global warming is a natural occurrence and smart ones say man is causing the warming. Those being hurt the most, the poor. It's the poor who are suffering the most from global warming . It's the poor who are uninsured in America and can't get the health care they need. Similar stereotypes: selfish unenlightened knuckle dragging humans vs. the giving enlightened Intelligent humans
