    Environmental stewardship and conservation have long been the focus of America’s foremost land stewards: farmers and ranchers. We realize this importance and have developed the Environmental Stewardship Program to assist you in learning more about the environment, conservation, stewardship practices and educational opportunities. Cattlemen and women from across the country were recognized today for their commitment to environmental stewardship during an award ceremony for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s (NCBA) Environmental Stewardship Award Program (ESAP). Now in its 22nd year, ESAP was created to recognize beef producers who make environmental stewardship a priority on their farms and ranches while they also improve production and profitability. The Environmental Stewardship Award annually recognizes the outstanding stewardship practices and conservation achieveme»nts of U.S. cattle producers from across the nation. Regional and national award winners have been commended for their commitment to protecting the environment and improving fish and wildlife habitats while operating profitable cattle operations. The common trait among all winners is the desire to leave the land in better shape for future generations while also inspiring the next generation of land stewards.

Such humor and militancy was the mood on each side of the Conservation movement of the 60's-.70's, and as before the native American bows in disdain. Much of the world's indigenous human population were stewards of the land. It wasn't that they were more moral than immigrant descendancies, they had thousands of years of experience as cultural bank accounts. Yes, they did not have to learn to extract a balsam from a plant, give it a scientific designation, a hazardous material identification, package it with licenses and choose a catchy brand name for the retail store shelf, test it on a sea of animals, but they did appreciate the same product and may have felt silly when grandpa made them say thank you to the plant rind, and equally to the whole in the ground where it grew.
