    For jazz I'd recommend getting started on a metal mouthpiece as soon as you can. If you've been playing on a plastic or other non metal mouthpiece it'll definitely be frustrating at first, but worth it in the long run. Hope this helps!

I wouldn't say metal, but thats just me. A lot of time those have a metallic sound, I prefer my sax to play sultry. Metal is best for funk, but for straight ahead, check out hard rubber. I would try Vandoren V16 or Beechler (not sure about that one). wwbw.com has a great trial program for mouthpieces that lets you try a few at a time.
