What are some piano composing techniques?

My girlfriend is doing composition coursework and she is using 'String Piano' techniques, how to score it?

    There is no standard notation for these "special effects". It is incredible (and weird) to think that stuff like this is being taught at a University these days. When I performed this sort of stuff (that I composed myself) at the Royal Academy in 1979 the staff there all nearly had heart attacks as a result. Since then I have moved away from "Contemporary Serious" Music and write stuff that people actually enjoy listening to!

If she does not own it already, the best place to purchase Finale, price-wise, is www.academicsuperstore.com. Buying DIRECT form Finale is not such a good deal - unless doing a switch-over from Sibelius - and you might even beat THAT at the website above. Not sure about these techniques in Sibelius - never had to use them. I DO use Finale and Sibelius almost every day, but my needs are far more pedestrian - I am arranging chamber music, vocal music, and salon orchestra.
