How can herbaceous plants be evergreen?

Please advise on evergreen shrubs with berris or any plants which I will be able to grow with out much effort?

  Choisya ternata is evergreen and needs little maintenance. Skimmia is another evergreen with a wonderful perfume from the winter/spring flowers. Escallonia with pink, red or white flowers grows into a super bush. Pyracanthus can have red, yellow or orange berries which are quite spectacular in the Autumn and Winter - until the birds eat them all! It does grow fast and needs regular trimming. Elaeganus with gold and green or silver green leaves. Eunonymus has variegated leaves and grows in most places. Viburums have blossom and berries and there are evergreen varieties. Laurels are very reliable. Photinia Red Robin is an easy to grow evergreen and the new leaves are tinged red hence the name. Hollies are slow growing with red berries - you can get green or variegated ones.
