How can I further my education as a medical assistant?

How much of an education do you need to become an adminstrative assistant?

  • Certificate enough or an associates? I just want to find a job as a ad assistant while i complete my degree.

  • Answer:

For the most part, its about skills and not formal education. Since, there is technically not a degree for this job type. What you really need is excellent computer skills (the more software you know the better), people skills, and a willingness to learn. I have been an Admin Asst for over 10 years. I went from college (2 yrs) to the Air Force (3.5 yrs) to customer service, to training, back to customer service and then to Exec. Admin. Asst. for a school didtrict in Northern NJ. I am currently an Admin Asst for a large Real Estate Co. in VA.

An associates will be fine. However, it depends on your area and who you know. If you don't know anyone that will give you a chance or the administrative assistants are only found through a staffing agency or Craigslist, then I would suggest continue on with your schooling. I do hope that you know somebody. Good luck.

You dont really need any of those...just learn computer software and you are in. Look for Receptionist jobs...that is a great job for "NOW".

It really depends on where you will be working and the skill set you bring to the table. Employers are looking for someone competent in this type of position who comes to them with a variety of skills, especially computer, multi-tasking, time-management, organization, communication and interpersonal skills. If a candidate appears possessing just the right mix without much formal education, you can believe that as long as they can interview successfully, they will find work. It is possible to get Diplomas, Certificates, and Degrees that will help you advance in this field. If you are not interested in pursing this down the line, however, I would not waste time getting formal education in this arena. Perfect your computer skills and the skills I mentioned above instead. You may be able to do this with a few classes here and there.

Hate to break it to ya, but you really need no degree and no training at all. Well, other than the general clerical work of typing, computer programs/knowledge of computers, phone etiquette, etc. As long as you have a HS diploma, for most jobs, it's fine.
