Always let the employer offer you the wages set at the level of cashier. You can always ask for a review in 90 days for an increase but its systematic that retail will give what is the norm.

For a cashier? You can try but your college degree is completely irrelevant in this case. It might help you if you were applying for management but in this case I don't think it's going to help you. And Panera Bread is a franchise, I don't know if they are all that flexible in their pay rates.
