How long is an rn to bsn program?

Should I get my RN AS degree or just go straight with a BSN program?

  • I currently have my LVN and am working on pre-reqs for my RN. I am still debating on whether to do a basic RN program and get my Bachelor's through an RN to BSN program after, or ...show more

  • Answer:

If you already are working as an LVN in a facility that you know hires ADN RNs, and you would be applying for internal positions rather than competing with the general public, then I say go ahead and just your ADN if you know these things to be true about your situation. For anyone else who isn't already working in a hospital, and considering that the vast majority of hospitals would prefer to hire BSN RNs to work the floor, I would recommend otherwise. But you know your own situation better than us. . . so if you think you'd get a job with only the ADN, go for it. I would still encourage you to complete your BSN degree eventually at some point. The RN to BSN bridge programs are very flexible, no where near as hard/stressful as the initial licensure programs, and you'll be better off job-wise in the long run in case you ever desire to seek a change and leave your current facility. Especially living in CA. Good luck.
