Should I become a CNA while getting an RN?

If you become a CNA will it help you knock down some of the prerequisites to become a RN?

    Well.....yes and no. The experience will sure you well, plus you can check out different areas and see if this is the type of work you want to do. Plus, i you get into a job at a large facility, they often have tuition programs that can help you pay for school. No,the classes do not apply to the RN program. At the schools I attended you actually receive no college credit hours for the CNA BUT !!!!! ALL of the schools in this part of Texas, about a dozen different programs, REQUIRE the you get you CNA and you BLS (CPR for health care workers) BEFORE YOU ARE ALLOWED IN THE NURSING PROGRAM! From what I understand,a lot of programs around the country are starting to require this.

The only requirement it will satisfy is if your school requires you to hold the CNA license for entry to their RN program, as mine did. But not all do. When people talk about pre-requisites for RN programs, they are talking about college level general biology, chemistry, math, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, developmental psychology, etc. You get none of these in a CNA program.
