  Congratulations to earning your high school diploma! You are now looking forward to a meaningful career. Looking back at your strengths in high school might help you answer your question whether you should go for a medical assisting career or a radiology technician career. Do you like school? Do you work well with other students in a classroom setting? Can you see yourself adding 2 more years of school (Associates degree), or do you need to get your career off the ground sooner than that and to the job fast? Are you good in biology, human anatomy, learning new languages (you will have to learn medical terms, directional terms, basic scientific terms), did you enjoy computer work, transcription, and data entry? Are you squeamish when processing or cleaning body fluids, wound excretions, or when seeing blood? If you said yes to all the previous and no to the latter (you are not squeamish) then you can consider medical assisting WITH a limited x-ray license. But if you are not comfortable with blood, wound excretions, urine, and taking people's pulse, temperature, or throat cultures, then radiology technician might be a much better fitting career path for you. Just know, that you can become a medical assistant in as little as 11 month, but the radiology technician program might be as long as 2 years. For the latter, you will also need strong math skills. So think it over, and read up on it. Another hot career path is that of a medical biller and coding professional.
