Answer:
They can find out that you worked there from your credit report, but they will not know if you were fired or quit unless they call the company and ask. Legally, the company can tell them you were fired but can't tell them why. I'm sure the fire dept would prefer someone who was fired from a job years ago over someone who is going to lie to them before they even get hired so just answer their questions truthfully while trying to leave out anything you don't want them to know. Flat out lying to them, or any future employer, is not a good idea.
