What is the difference between fashion marketing and fashion merchandising?

I want to study fashion marketing/merchandising, but I don't know how to sew?

  My advice from personal experience (I am a designer) is don't get into the fashion industry. Unless you are prepared to work extremely long hours for low pay (often going for years without a payrise) and being told you are never good enough. You have to have a very thick skin, and be able to survive on little sleep. It usually helps if you come from money as you will be expected to always be dressed in the latest looks and in quality brands (preferably designer labels). On the upside, I have lost weight since I live off noodles and have given up socialising and drinks with friends. The other side that may weigh on your conscience is the terrible pay and living conditions the garment workers in the factories have to endure. Being told you have to get production costs down so that the owners of the business can drive fancy cars and send their kids to prestigious schools, ultimately means that you have to rip-off hard working people who are trying to make a living. Take it from me, the fashion industry sucks.
