Wetsuit for tall and skinny?

What size or brand of wetsuit would work best for a tall and skinny female?

  • I'm 17 and I'd like to finally buy my own suit, I always use my friends' wetsuits but they never fit quite right. I am 5'10'' and 120 pounds and I'm ...show more

Well, each brand fits differently. Best thing to do is to go to a surf shop or a few and try the heck out of as many as you can. there are some brands that offer more T (taller) sizes I wouldn't know those though because I'm really short. Some advice on trying on wetsuits is that you really want a good glove-like fit. very important its a good size around the wrists and ankles (where it would let in water), no loose areas in the chest or tummy(keep that core heated is essential), and enough room to do a little squat and definitely able to move your arms. If you cant put your arms up its too small and if there's a gap its too big. Wear your bathing suit or compression shorts when you go since that's probably what you'll wear under it (although I know some who swear by going bareback, just don't do that in the store. lol) when you try 'em on move around as much as you can. It should be like a second skin. You'll know the one.The best fit wins! If money is tight (and boy do I know all about that....my greatest wish is for brand-new gear) than I know a surf shop in my area that does an annual wetsuit swap and you can buy a used one pretty cheap for that you kind of have to know what you're look at as far as a used suit. Sales like those aren't advertised online so you'd have to ask around. A new suit though will last quite a while if taken care of so you might wanna wait for a good sale and just go for it. The winter suits are usually discounted in the summer. Or there's hurricane sales where I live that offers some sweet deals. I do NOT suggest buying online. Like I said, each brand is different so there's no telling if it will be good for you. The only time I'd suggest that is if you are faithful to a certain brand and know the fit. That doesn't seem the case for you though. Lastly, I know you borrow a friend's suit but once you have your own I'd say to not let anyone use it who is bigger than you because it will stretch after a while. And...do a bunch of research. Knowing what you're looking for won't hurt in the slightest (and its free!). Good luck!

since local shops and bigger brands can be pricey, check out wetsuit warehouse's website for a big variety of styles and brands. coral reef makes nice quality, inexpensive wetsuits, and you can even get them custom made! but my biggest tip is to see what style/brands you know you like, and go from there. its all about personal preference.
