It's expensive, deadly and overrated. Everest has been reduced to a dump, at the moment they have brought together a team to clean the place up of rubbish and bodies. I know someone who has gone up, he should us pictures but it was a tough crowd he was trying to sell it to considering they where mountain rescue. I was not impressed only because of the distraction for personal gain and the amount of people that die in front of your eyes. He tolled us that you have to sign a waver that you won't be rescued and you personally can't rescue anyone. People have walked over dead bodies just to get to the top and some have walked passed people half dead and not helped them. I find more corage and achievement in my local mountain rescue team than anyone reaching the top of Everest. Where I come from its a mountaineering capital of the UK and its one of the most demanding in the world. People train here to prepare themselves and many don't make it. When I went to school two young kids lost their mum to Mount Everest and her body is still there until they clear the area. You seem to dwell on physical fitness but you have very little mountaineering skills/experiance. You have a long and hard lesson to go before you even think its possible and even then it more likely never be!!!

Currently about 1,000 climbers a year attempt to reach the summit, and on average 15-20 perish. Expeditions are the primary source of income for Nepal, and licenses to ascend start at around $25,000. If you have lesser experience and want to ascend with an experienced group, several companies will lead you to the top with a team of sherpas for prices starting around $40,000 per person. As a foundation, I suggest that you climb every Fourteener in Colorado, 55 according to some standards. That will give you a basic idea of where your interest is headed. About 10 people die annually on the 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado. Then, you can move on to the two to three week ascent of Mount McKinley-Denali in Alaska to give you an idea of longer ascents, being 17,000 vertical feet from the valley floor to the summit. If you are not discouraged at that point, save your money for the Himalayas. In addition to guide fees, consider transportation costs and gear.
