i shop at REI but they are fairly pricey (lots of high-end stuff that, in my opinion, is WAY overpriced and mostly over-rated), but if you get the opportunity, shop at the local recreational stores. they would most likely be stocked with a wide variety of equipment that revolves around function and not fashion. REI has all these several hundred dollar packs, boots,tents, sleeping bags, ect. and all have the "latest outdoor technology" for warmth, comfort, moisture wicking and the like. but do you REALLY need all that to have fun? i dont think so ether. which is why i shop there no more then a few times a year. we also have a summit hut and a sportsmans warehouse in town that sells good gear for a good price. check your yellow book for outdoor recreation, and happy hunting (price hunting? i dunno)
