How do you hand wash clothes properly?

How to wash hand wash clothes in the machine?

  • Is there a way of washing hand wash clothes in the machine?

  • Answer:

Does your washer have a Hand Wash cycle? Or a Delicate cycle? My washer has a Hand Wash cycle. It washes the clothes very gently. The main difference between it and the Delicate cycle is that the Hand Wash cycle spins more slowly. If you do wash Hand Washables in the washer, be sure to use a very gentle detergent - Woolite, Tide TotalCare, etc - and be sure to use cool or cold water for both wash and rinse. I would not recommend drying them in the dryer. I hang mine to dry on Tide Smart Dry hangers I bought at Walmart. They are specifically made for drying wet clothes. Or, the directions on the garments may say to dry them flat.

Basically what Maranatha, said is true. If it is something that you really like though, I wouldn't take the chance, I'd hand wash it. I had a dress once that was hand wash only, but I needed it to be really clean and hand washing wasn't clean enough for me, so I put it on the gentlest cycle the machine had and put it in by its self. The setting rocked it back and forth more than spun it around, and my dress was fine. It was a brand new front load washer though, and had a lot of settings, if you have an old washer I'd be careful, and definitely do not put it in the dryer.

Standard Center Post Agitator Top loaders: You should only wash them in the machine if you have an intermittent agitation cycle. Cause stuff that is really delicate like stockings or chiffon material should be washed in top loading machines that have this feature only. If the hand wash items are a little more durable then you can wash them on the slow agitation cycle Front Loaders: Choose hand wash or gentle cycle. Front loaders agitate differently and are much more gentle on all fabrics than the standard center post top loading machines that so many of us in America are used to. Instead of vigorously pulling and pushing the clothes through water, the clothes slip and slide and are gently lifted and dropped in and out of water. Top Loader Agitatorless: Putting hand wash items in these types of machines should be fine, since they mainly clean by pushing water through the clothes instead of the other way around and their agitator is flat and minimal. Just be sure you select the appropriate cycle

I use a soak & spin method. Fill the washer with cold water and add a mild detergent like Woolite. Let the clothes soak for about 10 minutes and gently swish them around by hand. Don't let the washer agitate. Set the cycle to spin and then let it refill to rinse. Again, don't let it agitate in the rinse cycle, either. Set it to spin and you're done. This method is as gentle as hand washing but a lot less work.

Use a "low spin" "low soil" setting on your washer. Or, preferably if your washer has a setting, set it to "handwash" or even "delicate" cycle.

Use the lowest cycle for about 3 or 4 minutes

Just soak them overnight - then rinse by hand next day.
