Why won't my xbox 360 controller charge?

Can I charge my wireless Xbox 360 controller in another USB port other than the console's USB port itself?

Well, I just plugged it into my computer and it looks the same as if I plugged it into the xbox (except the controller isn't on). But it'd take a while to see if the red light will turn green. I'll edit my answer if it changes. Oh, and when you plug it in, you get the "found new hardware" stuff when you plug it in. Hah.

I can't see why not. USB is a standard, which by definition means all USB ports should be exactly the same, providing the same amount of voltage and power and having the same size and shape, so the USB port on your computer should do exactly the same thing as the one on your Xbox.

I am not sure but I got the quick charge kit which you plug in to a normal electrical socket and it charges two batteries at a time pretty quickly. As for the play and charge you can just leave it plugged into the 360 when you are not playing and it will charge.
