If you trust government to protect the environment, you will be sadly disappointed. please look at the state run economies of the Soviet Union, China, and the entire eastern European Block nations. They are without exception pollution nightmares. The environment has been raped for the advancement of socialism. the only economies who have been successful in cleaning up and preventing environmental damage has been the western democracies, especially the US.
